Getting caught up in it....

Well it's that time of year again. It's the time of year when Mike and I are practically having heart attacks every other night as we watch the San Jose Sharks battle it out in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Sports really do take you though an emotional roller coaster through each win, loss, should've won, accidental goal.... etc. And this series has been no exception.

But I had an interesting thought when I recently received comments on a facebook comment about a mistake made by a Sharks player this year. Me and another friend were disagreeing about whether or not it was acceptable.

It went a little something like this:

What struck me was Lauren's comment: This is why I don't watch sports.

I almost feel like we can apply this type of emotion and heartbreak to many different interests.

Lauren for instance, is into television, fashion and celebrities to name a few. Televisions shows can definitely disappoint us by not garnering enough viewers to remain on the air or by taking a plot twist we completely disagree with and ruining the show.

Celebrities can disappoint us with their by moral choices (ahem Jesse James) or with their horrible choice of wardrobe. Fashion can definitely disappoint (ahem, 80's movement in EVERY store currently).

Or music artists and disappoint us with their ignorance (ahem, John Mayer).

We wrap our emotions up in many things. We have many reasons to get heated about things. I guess when it comes to the sports and the Sharks we have to go through it once a year, every year at the same time. Five years in a row and we are still struggling through it. I guess we should be proud we get to this point at all. But honestly I still have faith.

Tonight Mike and I attend our second playoff game of the year. We hope it's a great one, one where the Sharks dominate and get the win they finally deserve. Here's to another year just praying the Sharks don't choke in the first or second round.

Tid bits and updates

So I know it's been forever since I posted but I am still here I promise.

Work has been nuts lately - cover stories, magazine, budget cuts, features and even more things to cover.

Ramped up support of Kiwanis. In addition to planning programs for our weekly meeting I am heading publicity for the Pet Parade and manning the registration booth for the Special Games. I am also the election representative for Los Altos - basically meaning I am in charge of distributing polling materials and then collecting them again on election night along with collecting the ballots.

Mike's birthday is April 16. We are headed to Pollock Pines this weekend for a three-day getaway, which should be nice. Will be celebrating with his family at a picnic lunch on Saturday.

Lauren and her husband Alex

Lauren has returned from her honeymoon and the wedding hoopla is over. The wedding was beautiful and she made a completely gorgeous bride. I enjoyed being a Matron of Honor and look forward to not having to do it again for a LONG time (if ever)! It is a lot of responsibility, something everyone should only have to do once or twice!

Lauren and I at the wedding

Hung out with Amanda this weekend. We haven't hung out since Christmas, which is just TOO LONG. We went to the Academy of Sciences museum and I got to see Golden Gate Park for the first time (I can't believe it took this long to finally see that part of San Francisco). I am so sad Amanda will be moving in August to Rhode Island, but and so proud of her for getting into Brown for her MFA in acting. She is so talented and I can't wait to see where life is going to take her! Oh and I get to see her be the lead in a musical next week! Can't wait!

Am going to meet up with a bunch of strangers at the end of this month in celebrations of Bossy's (No) Book Tour! I am super nervous to meet complete strangers but would love to meet other bloggers and make new friends.

Mike and I at my birthday celebration (no more long hair).

Also got my hair cut. Gone is my long tangley hair always tied back in a pony tail. I now have mid length (to the collar bone) hair and have added a side bang look. It's different but I like it, and it is forcing me to style my hair everyday which is great.

My new hair!

Anway- the real reason I am writing this post is because I am procrastinating all the writing I have to do today. So I am going to head out now. Happy trails and I hope to have some updates for you soon (next week is Spring Break, so my reporting responsibilities will be at a minimum).
