Favorite Nail Art of 2016

I know it's probably getting old seeing all these best of lists, but going through my swatches of 2016, I couldn't help but spy a couple of nail art I worked pretty hard on and really liked.

I'm feeling pretty tired tonight, so I'll make sure to name each nail art and then link you to the original post so you can read all about it there. Sorry for not giving more elaboration.

We'll go in chronological order to see progress throughout the year!

Want to know something funny?! I found a few nail art looks I forgot to share with you that I created in 2016 while going through my archives. Guess I should share those with you soon!

Also a little reflection: I often don't think much of my life as a nail blogger, but taking a look at these 20 looks, I have a lot to be proud of and I shouldn't beat myself up so much.

Now I'm dying to know, which of these is your favorite?!

Illyrian Polish Swatches, Review and Nail Art

Ok I have a confession to make, I’m crushing hard on a new to me brand and I’m super excited to share that brand with you today.

Untitled

Illyrian Polish, why have I waited so long to try you out? Originally I just purchased three bottles to, you know, review and try a new brand. But I fell deeply for this brand and have already made another order, with even more stunning polishes.

Anyway, Illyrian has a preorder planned tomorrow (Thursday Sept. 8) at 6 p.m. CT through Monday 11 p.m. CT – so you can get your hands on these without fearing that they will be sold out! I thought it was a perfect time to get my butt in gear and share these beautiful polishes with you.

First up we have Illyrian Polish Soul Charmer. This is a complex little polish here, as I have come to learn about a lot of Illyrian polishes. They are often times more than meets the eye. This polish as a silver holographic base but is packed with copper shimmer and larger microglitters giving it a great holo finish, but with scattered holo as well. The copper shimmer is what I love about this polish and definitely makes it stand out in my book. This was opaque in two easy coats, shown with one coat of top coat.

Next up we have Illyrian Robot Rock, the July LE polish. I’m not sure is this one will be available in the restock, but it is unique in its own right and needed to be shared. This is an interesting color, not quite brown, not quite copper, slightly olive in its finish. It is a gold holo polish packed with various purple, green, aqua and gold chrome flakies. This was easily applied in two coats for opacity.

Finally we have the reason I hit the purchase button for Illyrian. This is Illyrian Polish Awaken Your Magic. What I have discovered about Illyrian is that she does shimmer so well. This isn’t the type of shimmer you see in swatches, where it is so subtle its hard to capture on camera. Nope, this is the type of in your face shimmer that makes the polish so wonderful to wear on your nails! This polish is a gorgeous light purple polish with various sized holo flecks and the most gorgeous warm golden leaning pink flash. The shimmer in this is a color I sooooo love so it is what makes this polish in my opinion. This was on the sheerer side, but built up nicely in three easy coats.

Now we are on to my second Illyrian order, this is Illyrian Polish Blue Moon. You guys, this is totally going on my polishes of the year list. This is a gorgeous purple leaning dark grey holographic polish with the most amazing golden sunset shimmer. The shimmer in this is similar to Awaken Your Magic, but because it has that dark moody base it gives this polish a completely different feel. This was almost a one coater, I did two for good measure and the formula was a dream. You’ll see this polish later on, when I share some nail art at the bottom of this post.

Last but not least, another strong shimmer. This is Illyrian Polish Dazed. This is a blue leaning grey polish with a strong a green aqua shimmer. No holo to compete with, this is just one strong shimmer polish. It evokes a very aquatic feel to me, definitely good for a mermaid mani or two! The formula on this was thicker than Blue Moon, but wasn’t difficult to work with and built up nicely in two coats. Two coats for that shimmer and no visible nail line? I’ve died and gone to polish heaven!

As a testament to how much I love this polish – I was working on a swatch session last night and had to take Blue Moon off. After I finished, I had to put Blue Moon back on and do a little seasonal nail art featuring my new UberChic Beauty plate Lovely Leaves. I’m so excited about this plate because I just LOVE fall leaf manis and now I have so many choices. Expect to see a whole lot of these in the near future.

To create this look I took one image and stamped using a dark purple Essie polish, then topped that same image using a Jolie stamping polish in orange. The look is subtle, but I think works. The orange connects to the shimmer and purple to the base!

So this is the look I’m currently sporting on my nails. It’s not often I share with you guys what is on my nails in real time (my instagram is for that), but I just couldn’t not share with you all my positive experiences with Illyrian and with the preorder coming up, I didn’t want you to miss out!

So once again, Illyrian Polish is having a preorder on several of her collections starting tomorrow September 8 at 6 p.m. CT through Monday Sept. 12 at 11 p.m. CT at her website. You don’t want to miss out, I promise!

Carpe Noctem Cosmetics Midnight Violence

Hey everyone. Still clearing out my phone of some older swatches and nail art. Today I have a gorgeous shifty polish to share with you.

This beauty is Carpe Noctem Cosmetics Midnight Violence. I have some fun nail art inspired by a wine label later in the post so stay tuned after the swatches.

This is a gorgeous indigo blue polish that looks like the dark night sky. In addition to it's indigo holo beauty, it has a very very very sparse scattering of multichrome flakies, which you can see better in the bottle. It has a medium density holo with holo microglitter that sort of resemble stars. It also has pink shifting pigment which you can see in my tilted bottle shot best.

Most of the time though, it just looks like a deep indigo midnight sky. It's been awhile since I applied this, but I'm pretty sure it was opaque in two easy coats. It is sort of jellish, so it may have been three. I apologize this isn't the most confident review. I do remember it was easy to apply, I always remember the difficult ones!

I was greatly admiring this one wine bottle's label for quite some time and once I put on this polish I thought it was time to do a little nail art inspired by the wine! So I broke out my UberChic Beauty UC 7-01 and stamped using Essie Penny Talk. I think the final result looked great next to the label.

So what do you think? Do you like the complexity of this polish?! It is quite the stunner! Once again this is Carpe Noctem Cosmetics Midnight Violence, and yes, I think you need it!
