Great Lakes Lacquer Friends Pt. 2 and October LE Review

Good morning everyone! Today I've got an awesome collection of polishes to share with you and they are available this Sunday, so open up your wallets everyone!

Untitled
*Press Samples*

This is Great Lakes Lacquers Friends Pt. 2 Collection and it is made of five super unique polishes with super special qualities about each one as each one is made in honor of a friend of the awesome creator Mariah.

The collection will be available at 3 p.m. Sunday September 27 on the Great Lakes Lacquer Etsy site!

A note to begin, if you see any texture in these photos, it is because I did not swatch with top coat. Most of these are super shiny and wouldn't even require a top coat, but there are one or two with all sorts of special elements in them which might create a bump or two. One coat of top coat would easily solve this, sorry I didn't top coat while swatching, but I promise you'll still see these polishes sparkle and shine.

First up we have one of my favorites! This is Great Lakes Lacquer The Traveling Linguist and it is a gorgeous brown jelly polish packed with gold and copper flakie shimmer. This did apply rather sheer and patchy on the first coat, and because it was a jelly it did require three coats for opacity. There was no difficult in application and just look at that gorgeous payoff. I swear this is the season of the brown polishes and I want them ALL!

Let's see what Mariah had to say about the inspiration behind The Traveling Linguist:

This lady is a world traveler and has the language skills to go with. She is also a huge nature lover. Her idea of a vacation is taking you out camping and making you climb things while she’s at it. I tell you though; the views when you wake up are worth it. Did I tell you she’d give you the shirt off her back as well? One thing is for sure, when I cross Patagonia off my bucket list, she’s definitely coming with me. That way I’ll always have an extra pair of clothes and be able to ask where a bathroom is.

This beauty is Great Lakes Lacquer The Polish Fairy Godmother and it is a gorgeous coral pink polish with beautiful blue shimmer which really stands out in my collection. I've never seen a polish like this and it just so stunning. Very girly, but the blue shimmer definitely tones that down a bit. It's a classic polish with an unexpected twist. This polish was not streaky at all and applied perfectly in two thin coats.

The inspiration for the polish:

A more apt name could not be found for this one. When I first met this lady, the first thing she did was send me a bunch of nail polish that I had on my wishlist. I have gotten to know her since and she is as sweet as the goodies she sends. She is also tough as nails. To this day, I know of hundreds of people that she has visited her kindness upon. You, too, may have her to thank for your keen interest in indie nail polish.

This is Great Lakes Lacquer The Enigmatic Soul and there is a lot going on with this polish. It is a gorgeous cobalt blue jelly polish packed with emerald glitter and amethyst and copper shimmer shards. I just love this one because it has so much depth to it. Application was a breeze in two coats, no need for a third even with it's jelly base.

And the inspiration behind this lovely shade:

There is more to this one than there seems, at first. At the surface, there is quiet but underneath the depths are limitless and rolling, almost like a river. You would never know that she has all the amazing talents that she does if you don’t take the time to get to know her. From making nail polish to architecture to the culture she cherishes, the multifaceted side of this lady never ends.

Check out this sexy polish, a little fun and bright vamp going on, perfect for fall don't you think?!? This is Great Lakes Lacquer The Animal Advocate. It is a gorgeous plum linear holo polish with beautiful fuchsia and copper flakies which really set this polish apart in my vampy-filled collection. This applied wonderfully in two coats.

And the inspiration behind this polish, which totally describes a person I could totally be friends with:

A woman with a heart of gold and the mind of a 12-year-old boy, this lady is quick with the sass and can make a sailor blush. Still, she is a great friend who is always there with a helping hand, especially for those who can’t speak for themselves. She does amazing things for animals in need, even fostering for those who would be forgotten otherwise. Her huge heart and voracious vocabulary are a huge inspiration to me.

And finally, last but totally not least, is Great Lakes Lacquers The Evil Enabler. This polish definitely packs a punch, it is a deep purple jelly polish packed with orange holo flake, orange glitter and orange microglitter. This applied in two easy coat, I would wait a minute between coats so the glitter does not drag too much. I definitely liked this one a lot and I am sorry I didn't top coat it because I bet it would look even more stunning with a top coat!

The inspiration behind this one, and I think we can all name one or two of these in the nail blogging world:

No one is safe from this lady’s swatches. Perfect nails, perfect polishing, and gorgeous nail art hardly covers it. I know I’ve bought many bottles of polish based on her pictures. Good thing she has awesome taste. I hear she is a mean mixologist and will ear bug you bad but I haven’t fallen victim to that yet. You can always trust her to give you the truth while considering your feelings. A true friend with the ability to make you empty your wallet.

And now I will share with you the Great Lakes Lacquer October Limited Edition polishes. Each month Mariah makes two gorgeous limited edition polishes that are only available the month of October. These babies are inspired by The Walking Dead memes you've not doubt seen floating around the interwebs, so let's take a look at these beauties shall we?!

First up we have Great Lakes Lacquer Coral, a funny jab at the exaggerated Southern drawl on Carl's name from The Walking Dead. This is a beautiful soft purple linear holo with gorgeous pinky coral shimmer. I just looooove this purple, it's soft and delicate without being too girly. I guess kind of like Carl (to be honest, I've always detested him as a character!). This applied easily with two coats.

And finally we have Great Lakes Lacquers Stuff & Thangs - this is for Rick, his stuff and thangs. This is a gorgeous blood red jelly polish with orange gold crystal chrome flake and red shimmer and microflake. This also had easy application in two coats.

So once again, get your pocket books ready ladies, all of these polishes will be available at the Great Lakes Lacquers Etsy site at 3:00 p.m. EST Sunday September 27. And don't forget to keep up on the latest and greatest things Great Lakes Lacquers on Facebook and Instagram. We even have a Facebook Fan Group too, come join in on the fun!

So which of these is your favorite?! The minute I got the package and tore into it I was struck with how unique each of these polishes is in my collection. I've never seen polishes quite like these and the fact that they are inspired by real life people? Even better!

Smitten Polish The First Lobster

This may be the most beautiful polish I have ever tried on. And it took me awhile to actually use it too, but once I did, man this is seriously the best polish ever!

Meet Smitten Polish's The First Lobster, this gorgeous holo polish is the most vibrant, bright and pigmented holo I have ever tried on. Just check out this polish indoors, below, there is no white cast at all – it is just this vibrant red-orange-coral amazing color.

 photo ABA4C713-6432-4937-9CE4-E3F7228E8FEF_zpsbaxqvi9m.jpg

Seriously, I've been searching for the perfect coral polish my entire life and I think I have finally found it. This is the most beautiful orange leaning red. I was originally thrown because when I saw the bottle it just looked like an orange holo, but I put it on and BAM!

 photo 44104D52-9F40-479F-819D-7F8B0FEEAC58_zpst6fb9dnb.jpg

I'm considering wearing this on my vacation coming up, because this is a color I could never bore of. Seriously, the best polish ever!

KBShimmer Belle of the Mall

Happy Monday everyone! I think I can only say that because I am typing this up not on a Monday. What is with Mondays? They really can be the worst sometimes huh?

Anyway today I have a sparkle bomb of brightness to share with you. I first fell in love with KBShimmer after seeing their outrageous jelly sparkle polishes that truly pack a punch. Belle of the Mall is from KBshimmer's their Spring Collection and it's a beautiful pink leaning coral jelly glitter bomb!

 photo 7DB2B856-9DD8-49CC-97B0-8403441E1E85_zpstwlzmw8k.jpg

Not only did this polish sparkle in the sun, it was almost neon in the shade! Such a beautiful bright pink color!

 photo FAD1FBF9-2129-4AC1-BC08-EB6BD8B1D019_zpslupe8pzj.jpg

This polish consists of holo hex pieces of various shapes suspended in a pink leaning coral glitter that glows in and out of the sunlight!

 photo C18FC405-AABF-4E98-B6D5-4E9AB97031EE_zps7gqqiehk.jpg

Now, I seriously love glitters, but I seriously hate removing glitters. So I naturally I got a base coat that makes removal easier – here I used Nail Pattern Boldness Glitter A Peel. I have a love hate relationship with this base coat – I love how easy it makes my glitter to remove, but I hate that my manicure lasts less than 24 hours before it starts the easy removal process. I just want to wear a glitter for a longer amount of time (than 24 hours) and have an easy time removing it. But unfortunately that is just too much to ask.

And so I painted my nails the evening before and by 2 p.m. the next afternoon, this happened:

 photo 9E663BBC-634E-4794-BBB9-A7E84C792F79_zps3dlxgmbf.jpg

Application: KBShimmer makes THE best glitter bombs that require no fishing for the various sizes of glitter and went on easy in three coats!

Where to purchase: You can purchase Belle of the Mall from KBShimmer's website for $8.75. Seriously these are some of the most affordable and best quality indie polishes on the market, if you haven't already browse their site – they have something for everyone including cremes, holos, multichromes and yes glitter bombs!

P.S. My MoYou London Stamping Plate Giveaway is still going on, check out this post to enter the Rafflecopter and good luck!

Review of KBShimmer Make My Gray

This is an old manicure that I found lost in my iPhone photos and I realized that I didn't review it! Whoops! Anyway, KBShimmer is one of my favorite indie brands and their price point is so affordable as well! If you haven't tried indie polishes, KBShimmer is a great one to start with!

Let's get started, they recently came out with their spring line, which has many beautiful colors and I picked up two! This is the first I've tried so far.

 photo BCAB9E4D-BEE6-43AB-B302-E740FCFF375A_zpsizgn6vdz.jpg

Make My Gray consists of coral and gray matte sparkles with aqua holo sparkle pieces suspended in a milky gray-blue base.

I loved the combination of aqua and coral pieces, really made this polish a unique mix!

 photo 61419168-1938-4043-B1C9-1508563AF17E_zpsy6nelupf.jpg

In the sun the holo pieces sparkle, but indoors this polish is pretty as well!

 photo CF465AE9-3C1F-44EE-8C79-002750F040B9_zpssiz6i14n.jpg

This polish could make an excellent accent nail to a coral manicure or an aqua one! I tried a little nail art on it, using China Glaze Flip Flop Fantasy, but I couldn't quite match the coral pink. Didn't really like the stamping job, it was just too busy, but I had to try something!

 photo F243A793-C308-493E-A1AB-28DC38AA6635_zpszm3hsehs.jpg

Application: This is a polish that is packed with sparkle pieces, you don't have to fish for any of the sparkle pieces, but you may have to do dab for application so you get the sparkles where you want it. These swatches are about three coats of dabbing, you could probably get away with two, but I require perfection.

Where to Purchase: You can purchase KBShimmer polishes from their website, their polishes range from $7.50-$8.75 per bottle. This polish retails for $8.75.

Good news: I won Chameleon Stampede's Second Blogaversay contest and I am getting a $25 gift certificate to Girly Bits! I am a Girly Bits virgin, but I've had my eye on A Stripper Has Been Sleeping in My Bed and Get Weaponized for some time now, so that will be great!

Recent purchases: I went on a spending spree this weekend, and man do I have so many pretties coming my way- new Dance Legend Spring Wow Prisms, another Color by Llarowe, more Indigo Bananas and my first Smitten Polishes are coming my way. I'll have lots of new pretties to show you coming up!

Coral nail polish comparison swatches

Coral is definitely one of my favorite colors to polish my nails. It's a bright warm color that looks good on many skin tones and always reminds me of warm weather and sunsets. So before doing my most recent manicure, I decided to pull several colors from my collection and put them to the side by side test.

 photo F21B29DD-AEC8-4262-8D3F-40E331E33803_zps5mx62wwg.jpg

My most recent purchase was OPI Live.Love.Carnival from the OPI Brazil Collection and I wanted to see if I had any dupes in my collection. Turns out, I don't! The closest OPI Live.Love.Carnival comes to a dupe is with Essie Sunday Funday, but they have different finishes. Sunday Funday has some ultra fine silver glass-fleck shimmer in it.

Essie Come Here, which I have as a mini bottle, is a brighter deeper coral than Live.Love.Carnival and Zoya Heidi has is more of an orange leaning coral. I think Come Here and Heidi are brighter than Live.Love.Carnival, but all the corals look good to me!

Since I had all my corals out, there were two more shades I had always wanted a side by side comparison of because they look very similar in the bottle.

 photo 6EC8D3B0-DF73-484A-ADD0-53F1920F5233_zpsgmppwf7r.jpg

OPI Red Lights Ahead Where, from the Holland Collection has to be one of my absolute favorite nail polish colors of all time. It is a bright coral leaning take on a great red nail polish. Essie's Hip Anema, which I admit I had in my untrieds still, looked so similar. But when you compare them side by side, it is clear that Red Lights is more red and coral leaning, while I feel Hip Anema is more of an orange red and is definitely a darker color. Red Lights feels more bright.

So which coral is your favorite? I really like Essie's Come Here, but the formula in my mini bottle left something to be desired, maybe it needs some polish thinner. I like the oranger leaning coral of Zoya Heidi too, but it was not bright enough. Knowing me, I will be buying colors like this forever! Do you have any perfect corals you can recommend I check out?

Swatch and Review of Love, Angeline Deep Magic and OPI Live.Love.Carnival

Today I have a two polish review for you guys, some awesome aqua blue holographic sparkle and OPI's pinky-coral polish from their Brazil collection.

 photo B0C100B3-74B6-47BE-85D3-4A61D75664EE_zpsxfv2yf2z.jpg

I'll start off with the Love, Angeline Deep Magic. This is a blue holographic topper and it was fairly easy to work with. I like how unique this blue holo is. I have Deborah Lippmann's Va Va Voom and it is more of a navy blue holo topper. I also have KBShimmer's I Got a Crush on Blue polish, and that is more of a cerulean blue in a blue jelly polish. Deep Magic is more aqua in color and reminds me of my birthstone, the aquamarine. In addition to the holo pieces of various hexagon sizes, there are also some iridescent pieces in there that might make more of a splash over a darker color.  I am loving it!

 photo 24C37AE8-FA1B-4302-A2D1-5479E7B70900_zpsajrfssvd.jpg

OPI Live.Love.Carnival is hard to capture on camera, it is coral, but a more pink toned coral. I'll have more comparisons of it for a later post. I like the combination of blue and coral, my nails feel bright and match the sunny weather we've been having in Northern California as of late! The above photo is under my kitchen lights, below in full sunshine!

 photo 37FFD9B5-F37C-482B-935B-63C318E424D8_zpsqfgzqm3d.jpg

Application: Love, Angeline's Deep Magic was applied using the dabbing method to ensure an even application of the sparkles. The sparkle pieces are suspended in quite a bit of clear polish, so that made application a little tricky, but the payoff is definitely worth it! OPI Live.Love.Carnival applied like a dream. I used two coats of Essie Good to Go top coat to smooth out my dabs of sparkles!

Where to purchase: Love, Angeline polishes can be purchased on her website. You can order her polishes in full size for $8 or mini for $4.25, which is convenient if you just want to try out her polishes. She also sells these cool nail vinyls, I might check out in the future! OPI can be purchased all over internet and at various beauty supply stores and retails for $9.

Looking ahead: Before completing this manicure I did some comparisons of my coral collection and will have those comp swathes on the blog soon!

Have you tried Love, Angeline polishes? What did you think?

Swatches and Review of Colors By Llarowe Lucy, I'm Home

I think the search for the perfect coral holo can finally come to an end for me. Every time I thought I had found something, it was a little too red, or a little too light pink. With the release of Colors By Llarowe's Lucy, I'm Home, I have finally found it.

 photo F6777B94-BF64-47A3-9DF5-7D98B3A3E765_zpspxquaqk1.jpg

A stunner in the sun, I can't believe how vibrant this linear holo finish is. It's so bright and perfect for the warmer weather we've been having this week.

 photo 854A3EFC-F05C-45D9-B67C-3A7457A1C64B_zpshwmkyzfl.jpg

Inside it looks like a bright pink. This color is a little more on the pink holo side (I really like it when there is a bit more orange) but it is so bright and flashy, that I definitely can't complain.

 photo 3A233E7E-5905-420B-88F5-D43F91FD80E4_zpskejcbtqb.jpg

 photo 31E30CFB-2DC2-4536-B17F-C8338A1AC7D1_zpsyjm1ftwg.jpg

Overall, I am extremely pleased with this polish. I put it on last night after attempting to nail stamp again (a somewhat St. Patty's Day theme) and failed miserably after trying many many times. My fail is below. I think it may have been the old old Konad stamping polish I was using, might retry this soon over my current mani, using a different black to stamp with.

 photo 34EF8EAB-11E1-49F9-895B-C6B6787539EA_zpseumsvsy9.jpg

And one final shot of Lucy, I'm Home in all it's gorgeous beauty!

 photo 2A57171F-1085-462D-93EE-20074152794F_zpsqulnuj5w.jpg

Application: The formula on this was a dream and was almost a one-coater. A lot came out on the brush, so making sure you control that is important to make sure your cuticles don't get flooded. All these shots are two coats with Essie On the Go top coat.

Where to purchase: Llarowe is an amazing indie polish retail and supplies all sorts of amazing polish from around the world. Colors by Llarowe are from her personal brand and while I think Lucy, I'm Home is currently out of stock, she restocks her line pretty regularly. I purchased Lucy I'm Home for $12. She has some other vibrant linear holos in her collection that are just as beautiful, so check them out!

Looking ahead: I know I promised St. Patrick's Day nails, but my stamping nail fail has me a bit discouraged I can get something cute done. If not, I have a back up in a beautiful KBShimmer polish which I will definitely wear, so I'll definitely have something festive. For now though, I'm loving the color I have on!
