Emily de Molly and Hella Holo Customs

Hello everyone. On Tuesday I received my latest order from Emily de Molly, which included one of the June Hella Holo Custom polishes, so I thought I would get to sharing these shades with you lickety-split, so you could see swatches while the polish is still available.

These are three shades full of shimmer, which I’ve been very drawn to lately, and I feel a lot of makers have been gravitating toward. Only one of these shades is a Hella Holo Customs shade – meaning you having to be a member of the group to purchase it. To join email hellaholocustomercare@gmail.com with the topic 'JOIN'. The ladies at Hella Holo Customs have worked with a number of different indie companies, calling on them to make polishes inspired by the Facebook group photos.

Well let’s get to the swatches shall we?!

First up we have Emily de Molly Lace Man. This is a lovely purple leaning grey polish packed with pink, purple and golden iridescent flakies which give off the most stunning pink glow. This was opaque in two easy coats, but does dry down slightly textured (very very slightly, just the flakies I think). I would recommend a thicker top coat to make it shiny and smooth.

Next up we have Emily de Molly Shadow on the Moon. This is a lovely stormy grey linear holo polish packed with larger microglitters for a scattered holo effect and then packed with dark pink flakies to create an awesome red leaning pinkish glow. This one was absolutely stunning, I was in love with this polish. Just look at the macros and appreciate the depth and complexity of this gorgeous polish!!! This was opaque in two coats, shown with a glossy thick top coat.

Finally we have Emily de Molly Desert Rose, the Hella Holo Customs special polish. This polish was definitely pinker than I expected, but paired with that greenish golden glow (it leans more green in real life) that totally cools down the pink and makes it appear more coral like. I love the optical illusion of it all! The shimmer definitely is strong in this one, so much so the linear holo seems to take a back seat, but it is still a lovely combination. This polish was opaque in two coats, but was a bit on the watery side, not difficult to work with, just don’t overload your brush. It was mildly brush-strokey, but that seemed to disappear when the polish dried a bit.

This above shot is a little warmer, due to it being taken in the morning sun.

I just can’t leave well enough alone and decided I needed to do a little double stamping of a succulent-like stamping image, since the inspiration for this polish was the most gorgeous mix of succulents. The image is from UberChic Beauty 7-01 plate. To stamp I used Bundle Monster Jungle Mirage (from the Electro Glo nail stamping set) and then used Painted Polish Midnight Mischief to double stamp.

I looooove the results. I was inspired by a video that UberChic posted on instagram last night. I thought the double stamping was a neat effect and I thought the Jungle Mirage color matched the shimmer in this polish so well!

There are two other Hella Holo Custom shades from Emily de Molly I didn’t purchase but now am seriously considering. I was really impressed by all of these polishes and now I want all the Emily de Molly polishes!

Dreamland Lacquer HHC Relaunch

You guys it has been a WEEK! I wanted to get this post up on Wednesday but between graduation coverage at work, the Sharks playoffs and how hot it's been – I haven't had a minute to myself!!!

So let's get to the polish shall we?!

Untitled

So last year, back when Dreamland Lacquer was Smitten Polish, Noelie (the genius behind the brand), worked with the ladies at Hella Holo Customs to release Smitten Polish Kenyan Sunset and Smitten Polish Bengal Tiger.

Well fast forward to now, under the new Dreamland Lacquer label, these polishes are once again available for preorder through June 10 but only if you are a member of the Hella Holo Polish Facebook Group.

I figured since I had purchased them the first time around and had never gotten around to actually blogging about them, now was the perfect time to do it and I thought it would be good to throw a little nail art look in there too!

First up we have the gorgeous Kenyan Sunset. This is a lovely raspberry colored holo polish with a strong linear holo finish. The polish is opaque in two easy coats, but the holo is so powerful it is almost a one coater!

Next we have the beautiful Bengal Tiger! This is a darker orange holo with that same strong linear holo finish. The polish is opaque in two easy coats, also almost a one coater like Kenyan Sunset. You guys, I have been longing for some oranges for quite some time now and this fulfills my need for some beautiful orange tones.

Now I have seen these as gradients quite a few times, so I thought I'd do something a little different with them. Since they are both almost one coaters I thought I'd see how they looked stamp. And wow, while they aren't insanely opaque, it still is striking. And of course I added a little dotticure on the other nails just to tie the whole look together.

To create the gradient stamp I used just one swipe of each polish over the stamped image and swiped away the excess back and forth a few times to create the gradient stamp.

That's all I have time for today guys because I'm about to head out and claim a parking spot for yet another graduation I have to cover. I've left all the appropriate links for Hella Holo and Dreamland below!

Literary Lacquers HHC and Charity Polish

Hey everyone, I have an awesome pairing of polishes today! They look great on their own and they actually pair really well together and they are available from the same maker!

*Press Samples*

Both of these polishes are special in their own way. One is a Mother's Day polish, specially made for the Hella Holo Custom Facebook group, in honor of a mother who has passed. The other is an awesome charity polish created for super special person.

Let's get started with the Mother's Day polish shall we?!

This is Literary Lacquers Makuahine. This is a gorgeous golden chapagne linear holo with gold metallic flecks and pink rosy glass fleck. This shines so bright under direct light and the beautiful pink flash comes out to play in indirect lighting. It is a bit on the sheerer side, so it took three coats for opacity to avoid visible nail line, but the formula was top notch.

Here is a tidbit about how this polish honors a mother figure now gone:

While Aubrey was away, I kept thinking of a way to honor Stacy, a celebration of her life and of all lives of women that have nurtured us. The result is Makuahine. The metallic finish represents the strength that our mother figures have in all that they do for those they hold dear. The warm earthy color represents the love and care they bring forth to us. The Hawaiian name, Makuahine (Ma-koo-ah-hee-nay) was chosen because Stacy spent so much of her life on the islands, it seemed to fit.

To order this polish you have to be a member of Hella Holo Customs Facebook Group, if you aren't already a member, just email hellaholocustomercare@gmail.com with the topic 'JOIN'. This polish is available for preorder through May 10.

Next up is another touching tribute polish, but this one has funds going toward a completely worthy cause. This is Literary Lacquers Tonight's Adventures and it is the most amazing pink leaning coral linear holo. You all know I love my coral holos and this one is just so stunning and lovely I'm in love with it. It also has some violety pink glass fleck in it, creating another layer of interest to this polish. It is bright happy and fun and perfect for a summer night out on the town.

Like I said this polish is a charity polish, from now through the end of May, $5 of every $13 bottle of Tonight's Adventures is being donated to the International OCD Foundation (http://iocdf.org). How generous is that.

Now the really really touching part about this polish, it was designed with a Amy's friend Debbie Wolf DeMars, as a tribute to a lovely lady. Here is what Debbie wrote about it:

Imagine you have this amazing friend. She’s super smart, the kind of smart that would be intimidating if she weren’t so down to earth and nice. So instead of feeling inferior you learn from her. The kind of friend who pushes you to be a better person, and pushes you to question what you know and what you stand for. Imagine she has a wicked sense of humor. When you are together you laugh deep in your belly and your eyes tear. She’s caring and genuine and you know if you needed anything she would be there for you. Now imagine she has a teenage daughter and that daughter has all the amazing qualities of her mother. She’s spunky, smart and incredibly sweet. Sounds awesome, doesn’t it? And it is! Except that this amazing young woman, in addition to being brilliantly gifted and wickedly funny, also lives with mental illness. Her name is Sage. She is strong and brave but the road is hard and there are many bumps (hospitalizations) along the way. It is a constant fight. As their friend you feel helpless. You feel their pain so deeply it hurts but you are at a loss as to how to help. This is me and these are my friends. During one such hospital stay, amidst my feelings of helplessness, I had the idea of doing a charity polish in Sage’s honor, to raise money for OCD, one of the mental illnesses from which she suffers. I reached out to Amy with the idea and she was immediately 100% on board. Not only was she on board, she offered to donate a generous $5 per bottle sold to the IOCDF (International OCD Foundation)! Thank you, Amy, for your thoughtfulness and generosity! Being able to do something like this makes me feel like we are helping not only my friends but the countless others out there who are battling OCD. Please consider purchasing a bottle of this special polish in honor of my courageous young friend, Sage.

You guys, the story behind this polish, oh my goodness. That story alone makes me want to buy a bunch of backups or gifts of this polish for other people in my life (and being that this color is just up my Mom's alley, I might just do that!).

Also the sun shot of this you guys, it's even more bright and lovely in the sun. Also, while I was out on one of my many walks, I put my nails up next to some beautiful flowers and darn it if they didn't almost match my nails completely!

Untitled

And because I got these polishes at the same time and thought they would pair well together, I threw together a quick little nail vinyl look to show just how well these babies pair up together!

So yes, I do think you need both of these polishes. As a tribute to mother's everywhere and as a tribute to Sage and her bravery.

Dreamland Lacquer Dancing in the Sky

Hello everyone and a happy Tuesday to you all! Today I have a gorgeous sparkling gem to share with you.

*Press Sample*

This is Dreamland Lacquer Dancing in the Sky and it is a very special Hella Holo Custom polish that was created just for Mother's Day.

This polish was created for all the women who we have know that have helped us, taught us and loved us. It was based off of a YouTube song that Noelie, the genius behind Dreamland Lacquer, found and loved. She also said the sparkles represent the laughs of our favorite women.

The sparkles in this polish are deep and go for days. They are gorgeous and definitely dance, especially out in the sunlight. I would describe the color as a blue leaning periwinkle microglitter polish, but Noelie said that on some skintones it might lean more purple. In addition to the lovely microglitter, the polish features some gorgeous pink shimmer that also dances and make a surprise appearance indoors and outside!

The polish was almost opaque in two coats, I added a third for good measure and because I had a bit of visible nail line. It is a microglitter, but doesn't dry down too textured. I used one coat of regular top coat and then a layer of Ooh Shiny!, Dreamland Lacquer's quick dry top coat.

I couldn't bear to take this polish off, but wanted to add a fun nail art look to it while I was up at Pinecrest Lake this weekend. The polish pair well with Anchor Heart Lacquer's Vacation Land in a cute double little dotticure!

This polish is currently available for preorder through Hella Holo Customs, so you have to be a member of the Facebook group to be able to purchase the polish. To become a member, just email hellaholocustomercare@gmail.com with the topic 'JOIN.'

The polish retails for $13 and is available for preorder through May 10.

So what do you you think? I think you definitely need this pretty sparkler! While I was out wine tasting and hiking this weekend I couldn't stop staring at my nails, they were just so distracting – just like I like it!
