Tis the Season for Charity

Hey everyone! I know I put a dent in my wallet during the Thanksgiving weekend but today I wanted to share one polish with you that goes toward a great cause.

Untitled

This is Polished For Days Dear Santa. I purchased quite a large order from Polished For Days and once I read about this one, I knew I had to purchase it.

This polish retails for $10, and $7 of that goes toward Jacob's Heart Adopt-a-Family program. Jacob's Heart provides services for families of children suffering from cancer. This specific adopt-a-family provides money for toys and items families need during the holiday season. 70% of the cost of the polish going toward a great cause, it gave me all the warm fuzzies.

"We hope to be able to impact the lives of a few families impacted by this horrible disease," the store listing states. Well I'm all for that which is why I wanted to dedicate a blog post to this one individual polish.

This polish is a bling machine. Dear Santa is a silver holographic micro glitter polish with red-copper-bronze, green-purple-blue and blue-green-gold multichrome flakies. So in addition to the mega holo glow of this polish, you have every color of the rainbow flakies so it shines inside and out! My kinda polish FOR SURE. Two coats for this opacity, easy to work with formula.

This is perfect for that holiday party, or even good for the office if you want to have a little bling on the nails during this fun season.

Anyway, if the charity behind this polish pulls at your heart, I hope you'll consider purchasing Polished For Days Dear Santa. Not only is it for a good cause, it is also sure to turn heads once you've got it on your nails too!

Literary Lacquers Raven Duo and The Needle's Bite

I'm super excited to share three new polishes with you today! If you like grungy metallics, these polishes are definitely for you!

*Press Samples*

First up we have Literary Lacquers The Raven's Duo. After the success of Soul Within Me Burning from the inaugural Color Box, Jen Carter of xoxoJen and Amy (the genius behind Literary Lacquers) decided to make a few more polishes inspired by Edgar Allan Poe's poem, The Raven.

These will be available on Monday Oct. 17, but more on that later.

First up we have Literary Lacquers This Mystery Explore. This is a lovely smokey grey crelly packed with copper and orange holo microglitter and shimmer. This retails for $10.

"Let my heart be still a moment and this mystery explore; –

'Tis the wind and nothing more!"

This polish as so much depth. It's like a copper party on my nail filled with all the reflections of the rainbow!

The second polish in this duo is Literary Lacquers Sweet Lenore. This is a bronze metallic linear holo with just a touch of orange. This was opaque in two easy coats as well, but was almost a one coater. This is like the more sophisticated bad girl sister to This Mystery Explore – metallic and holo, it's definitely a show stopper! This retails for $12.

These will release on October 17 at noon mountain time on the Literary Lacquers Etsy site. There will also be a slightly discounted trio with these two and Soul Within Me Burning (also inspired by The Raven and designed with xoxoJen but originally released with the inaugural Color Box) , shown above, as the Raven Trio for $32.50.

Next up we have a super special limited edition charity polish that I know you won't want to miss out on. First let's learn a little bit about the beneficiary of this charity polish.

With Type 1 Diabetes, every day can feel like a succession of needles. Each day is filled with finger pricks, blood tests and insulin injections.

The Needle’s Bite, developed in collaboration between Literary Lacquers and Alex and Eli Bacon-Leslie, will raise funds for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

A big fan of the “Newsflesh” series by Mira Grant, Eli Bacon-Leslie chose to name the polish “The Needle’s Bite” because of his experiences living with Type 1 Diabetes and endless days of needles and blood tests, something the characters in the book could empathize with. The characters in the “Newsflesh” series live in a world of constant needle pricks and blood tests, but in their case, the tests are for zombie amplification, not blood glucose.

Each bottle of The Needle’s Bite will be sold for $13 and $5 from each bottle will be donated to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. The polish will be sold from Oct. 17-Nov. 16.

This is Literary Lacquers The Needle's Bite. This is a beautifully vampy mysterious metallic gunmetal linear holo with an antique gold highlight shimmer. Opaque in two easy coats, could almost be a one coater. You guys, this polish is so beautiful and I have absolutely nothing like it my collection. The golden glow gives it a whole other dimension beyond the metallic. This polish makes my heart sing.

And the generosity of Amy also makes me feel so privileged to be able to work with someone with such a big heart.

So once again the duo and this limited edition charity polish will be available at 12 p.m. MT Monday Oct. 17 on the Literary Lacquers Etsy site. The Needle's Bite is a limited edition polish, available Oct. 17-Nov. 16 with a $5 donation from each bottle going to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Smitten Polish Out of the Darkness

First off I'd like to say I'm sorry I keep forgetting to blog on Fridays. My intent every week is to blog Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, problem is, by Fridays I get pretty swamped in life. Fridays are deadline day at work and so my life gets a little hectic. If I don't pre-blog on the weekends, I get overwhelmed and I'm sorry about that guys!

Anyway, I've pushed up my order of posting this week to show you this amazing polish I got in the mail this weekend. Check out Smitten Polish Out of the Darkness.

Out of the Darkness is a charity polish Smitten created especially for Suicide Prevention month. Here is what Noelie, the genius behind Smitten, has to say about the polish.

"Smitten is doing a special charity polish this month for Suicide Prevention Month. Suicide prevention is a cause that is very, very important to me on a personal level, and it means a lot to me to be in a position to lend awareness to the fact that mental illness is real. It's affected my family. It affects LOTS of families, and lots of people. The suicide prevention hotline number is 1-800-273-8255. It’s my hope that this number might be useful to people who are struggling, whether it's the person buying the polish or someone they care about. The charity polish is called Out of the Darkness. It’s a purple jelly base with turquoise and purple holo microglitters (the suicide prevention colors), along with teal to purple color shifting glitters. $6 from each bottle sold in the month of September will be donated to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (www.afsp.org)."

Update: Since Noelie had some supply issues in September, she is extending her offering of the polish through the month of October for Depression Awareness Month. She will be relisting it on the website as soon as her shipment of bottles has arrived. As of Friday, she has raised $552!

The minute I got this under the light, I was amazed! This polish is a smorgasbord of glitter sparkle. I see teal, purple, holographic all suspended in a beautiful royal purple jelly polish.

In many lights this polish had a glowy blurple look, but always you could see the amazing sparkle!!!

The photo above is under my kitchen light, doesn't neccesarily look this purple in real life. Honestly, none of these photos can really do this polish as much justice as it deserves! This is a beautiful polish, I hope these photos convey just how gorgeous and unique this sparkle is.

Application: This polish dries very quickly, but is so packed with glitter that it is almost textured. It also dries very matte. Because of all the glitter, this polish is top coat hungry. I used two coats of KBShimmer Clearly on Top for these photos.

Where to Purchase: As soon as Smitten gets its bottle supply, the polish will be listed at the Smitten Website. Follow them on Facebook for more updates. I purchased this polish for $11. While you are on the website, take a look around. Smitten is one of my favorite indie brands.
